Quantum Blobs

چکیده
Quantum blobs are the smallest phase space units of phase space compatible with the uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics and having the symplectic group as group of symmetries. Quantum blobs are in a bijective correspondence with the squeezed coherent states from standard quantum mechanics, of which they are a phase space picture. This allows us to propose a substitute for phase space in quantum mechanics. We study the relationship between quantum blobs with a certain class of level sets defined by Fermi for the purpose of representing geometrically quantum states.

On the Goodness of “quantum Blobs” as Symplectic Invariant Quantum Cells
We introduce a notion of quantum cell which is invariant under linear canonical transformations. These cells, which we dub “quantum blobs”, have the essential and characteristic property that their intersection with any plane of conjugate coordinates passing through their center is an ellipse with area equal to one-half of the quantum of action. We show that this notion is particularly suitable...
متن کاملRemarks on the Fact that the Uncertainty Principle Does Not Determine the Quantum State
We discuss the relation between density matrices and the uncertainty principle; this allows us to justify and explain a recent statement by Man’ko et al. We thereafter use Hardy’s uncertainty principle to prove a new result for Wigner distributions dominated by a Gaussian and we relate this result to the coarse-graining of phase-space by “quantum blobs”.
متن کاملBlob-based Liquid Morphing
In this paper, we propose a novel practical method for blob-based liquid 3D morphing. Firstly, blobby objects are employed to approximate a given polygonal surface through an energy optimization procedure so that the distance between the isosurface of blobs and the given model is minimized. The primitives in the medial axis sphere-tree of a polygonal model are utilized as initial blobs — this g...
متن کاملPolymers with self-avoiding interaction in random medium: a localization-delocalization transition
In this paper we investigate the problem of a long self-avoiding polymer chain immersed in a random medium. We find that in the limit of a very long chain and when the self-avoiding interaction is weak, the conformation of the chain consists of many “blobs” with connecting segments. The blobs are sections of the molecule curled up in regions of low potential in the case of a Gaussian distribute...
متن کاملQuantum Treemaps and Bubblemaps for a Zoomable Image Browser
This paper describes two algorithms for laying out groups of objects in a 2D space-filling manner. Quantum Treemaps are a variation on existing treemap algorithms that are designed for laying out images or other objects of indivisible (quantum) size. They build on the Ordered Treemap algorithm, but guarantees that every generated rectangle will have a width and height that are an integral multi...
